Superman

Superman

Superman is a DC comics superhero created in 1933 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Since his first appearance in Action Comics #1, he appeared in radio serials, TV shows, movies, newspaper strips, etc. It has been his huge success and popularity that established the superhero genre as the center of comic book culture in the US.
Superman’s characteristics and traits changed more than once over the years, and those changes were explained as parallel universes.

However, throughout all those changes, come identifiers stayed the same- Superman’s blue uniform and his red cape, and his signature S shield to name some physical ones. His work at the Daily Planet as a reporter and his complicated love triangle with Luis Lane and his secret identity, and his archenemy Lex Luthor as main plot motivators.

Superman’s special abilities are flight, super strength and speed, x-ray vision, and invulnerability to name a few, and were explained as the abilities of any Kryptonian, making them a more evolved species. Later on, his powers were re-explained as derivatives of the different in gravity, and were made possible because of the difference between Rao’s red sun and Earth’s white one.

Superman is considered a cultural icon and the first comic book superhero. his stories were re-told numerous times in different ways, his character played by many actors, but most unforgettably by Christopher Reeve in the first movies (1978, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1987). Although Superman is the first and oldest superhero in comics culture, his character never stopped being popular, and new movies about his adventures are still in the making to this day (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2016, Justice League, 2017).
