The Australian native mammal has some unique traits that make so popular and loved. The main fascination stems from being the only mammals with a front pouch. The picket is used to carry its younglings (called joeys), which are born in an early stage of development. The pouch is one of the adaptations to the harsh climate in which they live, and the joey will stay exclusively in it for another 9 months before it is ready to start exploring the world outside.
Another one of the Kangaroo’s famous traits is its hopping as a way of locomotion. They can reach a speed of 20-25 km/h, and was developed due to the need to cover vast areas in search of water and food, as opposed to the need to escape predators. Their strong legs allow them to execute a lethal kick when feel threatened, and they travel in organized groups for more protection.
